Good Afternoon Families! I hope everyone has enjoyed this long weekend. We sure had some beautiful weather! We ended the second nine weeks of school this past Friday. Our third nine weeks of second grade will begin tomorrow. I have been in the process of assessing the students in reading. I have been very pleased with the progress that our class has made. Hello families, and happy new year! I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays with family and friends! I can't believe that we have finished half of our second grade year together! Time seems to be flying by. I am excited to see the children today, and look forward to the week ahead.
This week we will not have spelling or vocabulary words. We are going to complete a mini gingerbread man unit. Each day I will read 2 versions of the gingerbread man story and we will compare and contrast them. The students will identify the characters, text patterns and sequence of each story. At the end of the week, the children will write their own versions of the story.
In math we are beginning a new unit on place value to 1000. We will work on 100 more, 100 less, greater than, less than and expanded notation. Please continue to work on basic addition and subtraction facts at home each night. It is very important that your child become fluent with math facts!
I hope everyone has a great week!
